Aeronautics - Airframe & Power Plant Maintenance Technicians

Program Description

Practical and theoretical knowledge in basic maintenance techniques, plus the special requirements of either airframe or power plant work. Upon satisfactory completion of the required courses, the student is eligible to take the Federal Aviation Administration written, oral and practical examination for airframe or power plant license.


An ever-increasing number of new light and medium aircraft are in the sky each year, and a number of new airports are being built by government agencies throughout the country. There is a pressing demand for qualified aircraft mechanics. Positions can be found with metropolitan area and rural airports, with government agencies, and with private firms and contractors. Mechanics should be able to adapt easily to new developments in their field. Preparation in high school should include courses in algebra, geometry and shop. Working conditions are clean, well lighted and attractive.
